DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin outlined a progressive urban infrastructure vision for Chennai and major corporations across Tamil Nadu under the party's 2016 election manifesto. Addressing urban voters during the final phase of campaign rallies, Stalin promised that a DMK government will systematically modernize urban governance and transform the state capital into a world-class, liveable, and technologically advanced smart metropolis.
Key urban commitments included upgrading the public transport system by introducing modern, eco-friendly low-floor buses and expanding Chennai Metro Rail corridors. To support youth and digital inclusion, the DMK pledged to install high-speed free Wi-Fi networks in public parks, bus terminals, and major commercial hubs. In public health, Stalin announced the establishment of fully equipped Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in every municipal ward to ensure accessible medical care at citizens' doorsteps. In addition, the manifesto promised round-the-clock treated piped drinking water supply and extensive installation of networked CCTV surveillance cameras across all streets to ensure total safety for women and senior citizens.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK's progressive urban policies will create sustainable, inclusive, and technologically resilient cities for all residents across Tamil Nadu.
