DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and deep outrage over the gruesome daytime murder of fifty-four-year-old Right to Information (RTI) activist and anti-corruption whistleblower Parasmal in the bustling Choolai neighborhood of Chennai. Stalin stated that the brutal hacking of an unarmed citizen who used statutory transparency laws to fight civic corruption had left residents of the state capital completely frozen in fear.

Parasmal had relentlessly exposed rampant unauthorized building constructions, commercial building violations, and corruption among civic officials in north Chennai. While riding his scooter in broad daylight, he was intercepted and brutally hacked to death with machetes by a four-member motorcycle gang. Stalin pointed out that whistleblowers and transparency activists in Tamil Nadu faced constant threats and physical intimidation without receiving necessary police protection despite repeatedly petitioning district authorities. He emphasized that the brazen murder in a crowded commercial hub exposed the absolute collapse of police intelligence and surveillance. Silencing an activist fighting for the public interest struck at the very core of democratic accountability.

Stalin demanded that the police immediately arrest the conspirators behind the contract killing and guarantee security for all civic whistleblowers.
