DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon the AIADMK government to take ruthless and uncompromising action to put a decisive end to the menacing culture of hired mercenary gangs (koolippadai) that has emerged as a severe threat to public peace, social stability, and the rule of law across Tamil Nadu. He stated that the unabated proliferation of contract killers operating with total impunity exposed a dangerous collapse of deterrence in state policing.
Stalin pointed out that criminal syndicates and contract gangs were being brazenly hired to execute daylight murders, settle real estate disputes, extort businesses, and silence social activists across Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli, and Salem. Shocking incidents of targets being hacked to death in crowded streets, market centers, and court complexes had instilled deep fear among ordinary law-abiding citizens. Stalin criticized the ruling political dispensation for shielding notorious history-sheeters and patronizing anti-social elements for narrow political advantages, thereby paralyzing police field officers. He emphasized that curbing this menace required dismantling the nexus between organized crime, political patrons, and illicit financiers through specialized anti-gang squads.
Stalin insisted that the administration launch an unsparing crackdown against all hired killer networks to restore safety across Tamil Nadu.
