DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to convene the Legislative Assembly and move a unanimous resolution demanding the permanent abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and all centralized medical entrance examinations for Tamil Nadu. He stressed that preserving Tamil Nadu's historic policy of admitting students to professional courses based exclusively on Class XII board examination marks was vital to protect social justice and federal rights.
Stalin recalled that in 2006, the DMK government headed by Muthamizharignar Kalaignar enacted historic legislation abolishing entrance examinations for professional college admissions, opening the doors of medical and engineering institutions to lakhs of first-generation learners, rural students, and underprivileged backward class and Dalit youth. Introducing common entrance tests like NEET would favor affluent urban students who could afford expensive commercial private coaching centers, while shutting out talented rural students. Stalin pointed out that health and education were intrinsic to state autonomy. He emphasized that the state government must not compromise with the Union government on this fundamental policy.
Stalin affirmed that DMK will extend total legislative support to pass a unanimous resolution safeguarding medical admission equity.
