DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who holds the Home and Police portfolios, to initiate decisive executive measures to arrest the dangerous breakdown of law and order across Tamil Nadu without deflecting blame or painting legitimate criticism with political motives. He stressed that ensuring the safety of citizens is the primary constitutional obligation of any elected government.
Stalin pointed out that a series of shocking daytime murders, gang violence, daylight robberies, and violent assaults on women across Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, and Salem had created widespread panic among the public. Instead of acknowledging systemic policing failures and taking remedial action, ruling party ministers and government spokespersons routinely accused the opposition of exaggerating isolated incidents. Stalin emphasized that crime statistics and ground realities revealed a brazen defiance of the law by anti-social elements and hired mercenary gangs. When innocent lives are lost in broad daylight in busy public transit hubs and residential neighborhoods, the government cannot hide behind political excuses.
Stalin demanded that the Chief Minister directly review police administration and empower law enforcement to act ruthlessly against criminal elements.
