DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin urged the AIADMK state government to immediately initiate recruitment to fill over twenty thousand vacancies across the Tamil Nadu police force and clear all long-pending department promotions without bureaucratic delay. He stated that severe personnel deficits and administrative neglect had severely demoralized the state's police force, undermining effective law enforcement and crime prevention.
Stalin pointed out that frontline constables, head constables, sub-inspectors, and inspectors worked under extreme stress, enduring continuous fourteen-hour shifts without regular weekly offs or basic welfare amenities. Chronic staff shortages across police stations had hampered crime investigation, traffic regulation, and public security maintenance, particularly in rapidly growing urban centers. In addition, thousands of deserving officers who completed mandatory qualifying service were denied timely promotional upgrades due to administrative lethargy in the Home Department. Stalin emphasized that maintaining a motivated, efficient, and well-staffed police machinery was essential to uphold public order and protect citizens' safety. He criticized the ruling administration for using the police force for partisan surveillance rather than prioritizing institutional welfare and timely cadre promotions.
Stalin demanded that the Chief Minister immediately sanction necessary recruitments and clear all pending police promotions.
