DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon the Tamil Nadu government to immediately schedule the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) and expedite recruitment to fill thousands of vacant teacher posts in the School Education department. He stressed that administrative procrastination had severely undermined the quality of school education and dashed the career hopes of lakhs of trained B.Ed. and D.T.Ed. candidates.
Stalin pointed out that under the Right to Education Act, clearing the eligibility test was mandatory for teacher appointments, yet the Teachers Recruitment Board had failed to conduct the examination for three consecutive years. Meanwhile, thousands of state-run primary, middle, and higher secondary schools across rural Tamil Nadu suffered without dedicated subject teachers for science, mathematics, and English, forcing single teachers to handle multiple classes. Stalin emphasized that leaving crucial teaching posts vacant directly harmed the learning outcomes of underprivileged students from rural, Dalit, and backward class families enrolled in government institutions. He criticized the AIADMK administration for recruiting temporary teachers on consolidated pay instead of conducting regular recruitment.
Stalin demanded that the government immediately issue the TNTET notification and ensure transparent merit-based appointments.
