DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon the Tamil Nadu government to officially rename the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in Chromepet, Chennai, after its most celebrated alumnus and former President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on his first death anniversary. He stated that naming the institution after Dr. Kalam would serve as a fitting, permanent tribute to a visionary scientist who inspired millions of students worldwide.

Dr. Kalam graduated from MIT in 1960 specializing in Aeronautical Engineering, laying the intellectual and technical foundation for his pioneering contributions to India's satellite launch vehicles and indigenous missile defense systems. Stalin pointed out that MIT, founded in 1949 by industrialist C. Rajam as India's first self-financing engineering institution, had an illustrious history that reached global renown through Dr. Kalam's stellar scientific achievements and humble public service. He stressed that dedicating the campus in his name would permanently honor the unbreakable bond between the People's President and his cherished alma mater, motivating generations of engineering students to strive for scientific innovation and national service.

Stalin urged the state administration to adopt a formal cabinet resolution and effect the renaming immediately.
