DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin extended warm Independence Day greetings to all fellow citizens on the milestone occasion of India's 70th Independence Day. In his message, Stalin called upon people across the nation to reflect on the arduous sacrifices of freedom fighters and renew their collective dedication to achieving genuine social equality and comprehensive economic self-sufficiency for every stratum of society.
Stalin emphasized that political freedom won from colonial rule remained incomplete as long as social oppression, caste discrimination, communal divisions, and extreme economic inequality persisted. Drawing inspiration from the egalitarian vision of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he stressed that true independence could be realized only when the benefits of growth reach the most disadvantaged citizens through affirmative action, quality public education, and universal healthcare. Stalin underscored that cooperative federalism, respecting linguistic plurality, and safeguarding the rights of states were essential pillars of Indian national unity. He urged youth and progressive forces to actively resist authoritarian tendencies and communal forces that sought to divide the country.
Stalin reaffirmed that DMK will relentlessly champion social justice to realize the founding democratic ideals of independent India.
