DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt anguish over the devastating news that four young infants succumbed to dengue fever in Tiruvallur district within a short span. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the shattered parents and questioned how the state administration could remain a silent spectator while infectious diseases claimed young lives.
Stalin stated that the tragedy in Tiruvallur was not an isolated incident but part of a widespread public health crisis unfolding across Tamil Nadu. In several rural and semi-urban pockets of the district, including Gummidipoondi, Ponneri, and Tiruttani, drainage canals remained choked, domestic water supply was contaminated, and public sanitation had collapsed completely. Primary health centers lacked pediatric specialists and life-saving platelet transfusion facilities, forcing poor parents to travel long distances to Chennai hospitals, often losing precious golden hours during transit. Stalin criticized district administrative authorities for ignoring recurring fever outbreaks and failing to initiate vector eradication measures before the monsoon.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately sanction emergency ex-gratia compensation to the bereaved families and deploy specialized medical teams across Tiruvallur.
