DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin paid solemn homage to Vignesh, a twenty-five-year-old youth and Naam Tamilar Katchi functionary who succumbed to burn injuries after setting himself ablaze during a protest demanding Tamil Nadu's rightful share of Cauvery water. While expressing deep grief over the tragic loss of a young life, Stalin made an emotional appeal to Tamil youth, asserting that this must be the absolute last self-immolation in the struggle for water rights.
Stalin stated that precious lives should not be consumed by fire and despair, but preserved to wage resilient, organized democratic struggles against state and central betrayal. He pointed out that extreme acts of self-harm inflict unimaginable sorrow on families while letting authoritarian rulers and unresponsive governments off the hook. Tamil youth, he insisted, must channel their anger, energy, and patriotism into united mass movements, grassroots political mobilization, and constitutional fights that force authorities to yield. Stalin conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of Vignesh and urged all political parties and social organizations to guide the younger generation towards democratic agitation methods.
Stalin reiterated that collective democratic perseverance, not supreme sacrifice of life, is the path to winning riparian justice.
