DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin led a massive rail roko protest at Egmore railway station in Chennai and courted arrest alongside thousands of party cadres, farmers, and leaders of friendly parties during the state-wide bandh. The demonstration was organized to assert Tamil Nadu's legitimate riparian rights over the Cauvery river and sternly condemn violent chauvinistic attacks targeting Tamils, their properties, and commercial vehicles in Karnataka.
Addressing the massive gathering before leading protesters onto the railway tracks, Stalin condemned the Karnataka government and police machinery for failing to provide adequate protection to linguistic minorities and Tamil transport operators in Bengaluru and surrounding districts. He pointed out that while Tamils exercised utmost restraint and treated Kannadigas living in Tamil Nadu with traditional warmth, mob violence in Bengaluru was encouraged by local authorities to sabotage lawful water release. Stalin lashed out at the Union government for its total abdication of federal responsibilities, watching silently as interstate discord flared. He demanded that the Centre intervene immediately, protect Tamil lives in Karnataka, and implement Supreme Court orders on Cauvery.
Stalin reiterated that the DMK will fiercely spearhead democratic protests until complete security and riparian justice are guaranteed.
