DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin warmly welcomed the landmark order of the Supreme Court directing the Union government to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Board within four weeks. He termed the judicial directive a significant victory for the persistent democratic struggles waged by Tamil Nadu's farming communities and political parties to secure their constitutionally protected water rights.

A bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and U.U. Lalit also ordered Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water daily for seven days to Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that the creation of the statutory Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, as mandated by the 2007 final tribunal award, was the only permanent mechanism to ensure objective, impartial water sharing free from interstate political disputes. He noted that successive Union governments had dragged their feet for nearly a decade since the tribunal's award was gazetted. Stalin urged the central government to respect the apex court's strict four-week timeline without seeking legal dilatory tactics or exemptions.

Stalin stressed that the DMK will remain vigilant to ensure the prompt notification and full establishment of the board.
