DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to lead an all-party delegation and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person in New Delhi to exert decisive pressure for the immediate constitution of the Cauvery Water Management Board. He stated that writing routine bureaucratic letters from Chennai was wholly ineffective when Karnataka was blatantly violating Supreme Court directives and refusing to release Tamil Nadu's share of water.
Stalin pointed out that following the apex court's clear four-week deadline directing the Union government to establish the board, the Centre had begun prevaricating and avoiding its statutory duty. Standing samba crops across lakhs of acres in the Cauvery delta were on the verge of total destruction, pushing farmers into acute distress and financial ruin. Stalin emphasized that the Chief Minister must demonstrate active political leadership, set aside partisan hesitations, and unite all parliamentary representatives from Tamil Nadu to confront the Prime Minister. He warned that if the state government failed to act resolutely at this critical juncture, delta agriculture would suffer irreparable damage.
Stalin reiterated that the DMK will offer total support to any united government initiative aimed at securing the Cauvery board.
