DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin called upon Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to exert immediate political pressure on the Union government to hand over the investigation into the mysterious death of Tamil postgraduate medical student Dr. Saravanan Ganesan to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He stressed that only an independent premier investigating agency could deliver unbiased justice to the victim's grieving family.
Dr. Saravanan, a promising young doctor hailing from Tiruppur, was pursuing his MD in General Medicine at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi when he was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his rented apartment in July 2016. While local police initially attempted to treat the tragedy as suicide, post-mortem findings confirmed that he was murdered by intravenous injection of a lethal chemical poison. Stalin pointed out that despite repeated pleas from the bereaved parents, Delhi Police had made no headway in arresting the culprits. He asserted that the state government has a moral duty to stand by Tamil students studying in central institutions.
Stalin insisted that the Chief Minister take up the matter directly with the Union Home Minister to ensure swift CBI prosecution.
