DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin urged the AIADMK state government to take proactive, constructive diplomatic measures following the Supreme Court's latest directives on the Cauvery dispute to protect the livelihood of delta farmers and restore cordial interstate relations. He emphasized that passive administrative posturing and relying solely on eleventh-hour litigation had proved inadequate to secure Tamil Nadu's legitimate water entitlements.
Stalin pointed out that Karnataka's persistent defiance of judicial orders had sparked severe unrest, disrupting transport, commerce, and daily life along the border while leaving standing crops in the Cauvery basin parched. He stressed that while pursuing rigorous legal remedies before the apex court was essential, the state government must simultaneously engage with central authorities and pursue institutional dialogue to de-escalate interstate tensions. Safeguarding the farmers of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam required constant vigilance and robust diplomatic engagement. Stalin called upon the Chief Minister and the state cabinet to shed complacency and actively coordinate with agricultural unions and opposition parties to present a united front before the nation.
Stalin reiterated that protecting agricultural livelihoods and ensuring long-term water security must remain Tamil Nadu's paramount priority.
