Editorial context

DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin announced that the DMK will lead an all-party delegation comprising representatives of various political parties and agricultural associations to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee. The delegation aimed to apprise national authorities of the catastrophic crisis facing Tamil Nadu due to the non-release of Cauvery water and the Union government's failure to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

Stalin stated that since the state government had failed to take the initiative to convene an all-party meeting or lead a joint representation to the Centre, the opposition was compelled to discharge this crucial democratic responsibility. With the southwest monsoon failing and Karnataka refusing to honor tribunal awards, standing crops across delta districts were drying up, pushing farmers to the brink of despair. Stalin emphasized that the central government's sudden opposition in the Supreme Court against constituting the Cauvery board was an unconstitutional betrayal of Tamil Nadu. The delegation planned to demand immediate presidential and prime ministerial intervention to uphold the rule of law.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly champion the cause of Tamil Nadu's farmers through united democratic representations in the national capital.
