DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin met with Tamil Nadu Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam at the state secretariat to demand the immediate convening of a special session of the Legislative Assembly and an all-party meeting to address the escalating Cauvery water crisis. He presented formal representations outlining the urgent need for a unified state-wide political strategy to defend Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements.
Stalin pointed out that with Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa hospitalized and the Union government failing to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, the state government could not afford to remain passive while delta farmers faced crop devastation. He stressed that passing a unanimous legislative resolution and leading an all-party delegation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi was essential to exert collective pressure on the Centre. Stalin emphasized that safeguarding the livelihoods of lakhs of farmers transcended party differences and required bipartisan cooperation. He called upon the administration to shed political hesitation and take proactive constitutional measures to protect the state's legitimate water rights.
Stalin urged the state cabinet to act decisively and unite all political forces to safeguard Tamil Nadu's agricultural future.
