DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin condemned the state police department for acting as a partisan political instrument of the ruling AIADMK and arbitrarily arresting DMK functionaries under the pretext of curbing rumors regarding Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's hospitalization. He stated that the police actions flagrantly violated Supreme Court guidelines protecting citizens' fundamental freedom of expression.

Stalin pointed out that while social media contained diverse commentaries during the prolonged health crisis, the police selectively targeted DMK social media volunteers and grassroots cadres, registering non-bailable cases and subjecting them to midnight arrests and harassment. The Supreme Court in landmark rulings, including the Shreya Singhal judgment striking down Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, had strictly prohibited routine arrests for online speech and political opinions. Stalin criticized senior police officers for colluding with ruling party politicians instead of maintaining professional neutrality and constitutional adherence.

Stalin demanded that the state police hierarchy immediately halt partisan intimidation and illegal witch-hunts against innocent DMK members, withdraw fabricated cases unconditionally, and strictly respect fundamental democratic rights and binding constitutional judicial directives across Tamil Nadu.
