DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin led a massive rail roko demonstration in Chennai and courted arrest alongside hundreds of farmers, party cadres, and leaders from friendly political parties. The statewide civil disobedience protest was organized to condemn the BJP-led Union government for backtracking on its commitment to constitute the Cauvery Management Board in compliance with Supreme Court orders.
Leading protesters at Perambur railway station, Stalin blocked train traffic and raised slogans against the Centre's betrayals of Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements. He condemned the Union government for filing a modification petition in the apex court seeking to evade forming the board, prioritizing political considerations ahead of Karnataka assembly elections over the constitutional rights of Tamil farmers. Stalin pointed out that the AIADMK administration had utterly failed to pressure the Centre, leaving the state's agriculture defenseless. The spontaneous participation of thousands of agriculturalists across districts demonstrated the depth of popular anger.
Stalin asserted that the DMK will relentlessly intensify united democratic mass agitations until the Union government fully complies with apex court mandates and permanently establishes the Cauvery board.
