DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin sharply questioned the AIADMK state administration for suppressing critical data regarding distressed farmer suicides from the high-level central technical committee appointed by the Supreme Court to assess ground realities in the Cauvery basin. He demanded to know why the state government hid these tragic fatalities instead of presenting a comprehensive assessment of agricultural distress.

The expert team, headed by Central Water Commission Chairman G.S. Jha, toured drought-ravaged delta districts to inspect parched samba paddy crops, drying irrigation channels, and groundwater depletion. Stalin condemned the state authorities for presenting a sanitized and incomplete picture that failed to reflect the true magnitude of agrarian misery in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam. By downplaying farmer deaths, debt crises, and crop failures, the ruling government had severely weakened Tamil Nadu's compelling legal and humanitarian case before the apex court. Stalin stressed that transparency was vital to secure interim water releases and comprehensive central drought relief.
