Editorial context

DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government to depute a cabinet minister to the 64th Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meeting in New Delhi on October 25. He stressed that the state must formally and forcefully register its grave concerns regarding the draft New Education Policy (NEP 2016) proposed by the Union government.

Stalin emphasized that the draft policy contained several provisions that threatened state autonomy, federalism, and the socially inclusive educational model pioneered by Tamil Nadu. He warned that introducing centralized examinations, common entrance criteria, and Hindi or Sanskrit imposition would disproportionately disadvantage rural, backward class, Dalit, and underprivileged students. Since education directly shapes the future of Tamil youth, Stalin insisted that administrative lethargy should not lead to Tamil Nadu's voice being silenced at such a high-level national council. He called upon the state government to articulate a strong ideological defense of social justice, regional language primacy, and two-language formula.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will vigorously fight at all levels to prevent the dangerous centralization and commercialization of school and higher education.
