DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin firmly affirmed that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will never permit the Union government to strip away the fundamental rights guaranteed to religious minorities under the Indian Constitution through the imposition of a Uniform Civil Code. He stated that the DMK stands resolutely as an unyielding fortress protecting the religious, cultural, and personal freedoms of all minority communities in Tamil Nadu and across the nation.
Stalin pointed out that India's strength lies in its pluralism, cultural diversity, and secular fabric, which the Constitution meticulously safeguards through special protections and personal law autonomy. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government for attempting to enforce uniformity under the guise of legal reform, arguing that such moves aim to polarize society and undermine social harmony for narrow electoral considerations. Stalin recalled that the Dravidian movement has historically defended minority welfare and secular governance against majoritarian pressures.
Stalin reiterated that the DMK would mobilize secular forces across the state and country to resist any legislative or executive encroachment upon the constitutional safeguards enjoyed by minority citizens.
