DMK leader M.K. Stalin warned on October 27, 2016, that the opposition would move a formal motion of no-confidence against the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly if the twelve statutory legislative committees were not constituted immediately in accordance with solemn assurances given on the assembly floor.

Stalin emphasized that legislative committees, including the Public Accounts Committee, Committee on Estimates, and Committee on Public Undertakings, constitute the bedrock of parliamentary oversight, auditing executive spending, examining administrative efficiency, and holding departments accountable to the legislature. Despite the Speaker's explicit assurances during the assembly session, the constitution of these vital panels had been deliberately stalled for months by the treasury benches to evade parliamentary scrutiny of corrupt practices and executive mismanagement.

The opposition leader asserted that disabling statutory committees reduced the assembly to a rubber stamp for executive decrees, undermining constitutional democracy and the rights of elected representatives. Stalin affirmed that the DMK would not tolerate the systematic degradation of assembly institutions, Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK would firmly utilize all constitutional parliamentary remedies, demanding immediate official notifications for committee appointments to preserve legislative integrity and democratic dignity.
