DMK leader M.K. Stalin demanded on October 28, 2016, that the AIADMK administration immediately issue a detailed white paper disclosing the factual status and ground-level progress of multi-thousand crore rupee road infrastructure and highway development projects claimed in government press statements.
Stalin highlighted the stark divergence between the ruling party's grand budgetary claims and the appalling condition of roads across Tamil Nadu. While official releases boasted of allocating thousands of crores for four-laning highways, rural road strengthening, and urban flyovers, motorists and pedestrians daily endured pothole-ridden avenues, stalled bridge constructions, and fatal accident traps. Stalin pointed out that sub-standard construction materials, contractor kickbacks, and absence of independent quality audits had led to newly laid roads washing away with the first rainfall.
The opposition leader emphasized that taxpayer funds meant for public infrastructure cannot be squandered without democratic accountability. Stalin demanded that the Highways Department provide full public disclosures regarding project timelines, expenditure vouchers, contractor allocations, and physical inspection reports to prove Stalin stated that comprehensive financial transparency is essential to prove whether the celebrated mega-infrastructure investments actually existed on ground beyond paper proclamations and self-congratulatory governmental press advertisements.
