Tamil Nadu dropped to 18th rank as ADMK government failed to implement 125 points of 340-point BRAP for states/UTs #EaseOfDoingBusiness...
Editorial context

DMK leader M.K. Stalin voiced deep disappointment on November 1, 2016, over Tamil Nadu slipping to an abysmal eighteenth rank in the national Ease of Doing Business index, revealing that the AIADMK administration failed to implement one hundred and twenty-five critical reform parameters out of the three-hundred and forty points mandated under the Business Reform Action Plan.

Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu, historically celebrated as an industrial powerhouse and a top manufacturing destination in South Asia, had been overtaken by several smaller and newly formed states due to bureaucratic inertia, rampant corruption, and policy paralysis under the ruling dispensation. Crucial single-window clearance mechanisms, commercial dispute resolution reforms, environmental approvals, and labor compliance simplifications remained neglected. This failure forced prospective investors to migrate their capital and manufacturing ventures to neighboring states.

The opposition leader stressed that the state's economic decline directly resulted in soaring youth unemployment and stagnant industrial growth. Stalin demanded that the government acknowledge its dismal governance track record, eliminate bureaucratic corruption, and implement progressive economic reforms to restore Tamil Nadu's industrial prominence, competitive industrial advantage, and premier investment appeal.
