DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed profound alarm and indignation on November 5, 2016, pointing out that in the span of just a few days, more than ten people, including elderly senior citizens, vulnerable women, and young youth, had been brutally murdered across Chennai, exposing the total collapse of law enforcement in the capital city.
Stalin highlighted horrific criminal incidents where elderly couples were murdered inside their homes for jewellery, working women were targeted on public streets, and criminal rivalries resulted in lethal machete attacks in broad daylight. These shocking crimes shattered Chennai's longstanding reputation as a safe, peaceful metropolitan city. Stalin criticized the city police leadership and the ruling AIADMK government for remaining indifferent while citizens lived in constant terror of armed offenders.
The opposition leader observed that basic beat policing, nighttime surveillance, and intelligence gathering had completely broken down while police personnel were diverted to VIP bandobast duties. Stalin demanded that the government immediately overhaul Chennai's security architecture, deploy dedicated task forces to track down criminal gangs, install functional surveillance cameras across vulnerable zones, and guarantee absolute safety for every resident.
