DMK leader M.K. Stalin drew a stark contrast on November 12, 2016, between the Prime Minister's high-profile diplomatic visit to Japan and the agonizing hardships endured by millions of ordinary Indian citizens left sweating in endless bank queues due to demonetisation.
Stalin observed that while the Prime Minister enjoyed traveling aboard ultra-modern bullet trains in Japan and addressing international audiences, back home, the entire country had been pushed into chaotic disorder. Honest, hardworking citizens were forced to abandon their jobs, farms, and businesses to stand for hours under scorching heat merely to access a fraction of their legitimate savings. Stalin stressed that small businesses were collapsing, agricultural operations were halted, and daily-wage laborers had no money to feed their children, revealing a profound disconnect between governmental spectacle and public reality.
The opposition leader stated that governing a vast, diverse nation requires genuine empathy for the vulnerable rather than ungrounded policy experiments. Stalin urged the Union government to immediately halt self-congratulatory publicity, acknowledge the immense damage inflicted on common households, and deploy all available administrative resources to restore liquidity and normal banking operations across rural and urban India.
