DMK leader M.K. Stalin urged the AIADMK regime on November 23, 2016, to uphold parliamentary propriety and democratic conventions, warning the ruling dispensation against repeatedly creating conditions where opposition legislators were forced to approach the judiciary to reclaim their constitutional rights and privileges.

Stalin pointed out that the ruling party routinely misused executive power and legislative mechanisms to stifle opposition voices, bypass statutory procedures, and deny sanctioned administrative facilities to elected representatives. He observed that democratic debates within the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had been systematically curtailed, forcing the main opposition party to seek legal redress to restore basic democratic rights. Stalin asserted that a mature democracy relies on mutual respect between the treasury benches and the opposition, rather than partisan vendettas.

The opposition leader stressed that turning the state assembly into an arena of political retribution degraded institutional dignity and obstructed effective representation for millions of voters across Tamil Nadu. He firmly demanded that the state government adhere to established rules, honor democratic conventions, and allow elected members to discharge their constitutional legislative responsibilities without arbitrary administrative interference or partisan obstruction.
