DMK leader M.K. Stalin launched a sharp attack against the Union Government on November 26, 2016, pointing out the severe contradiction at the heart of the demonetisation policy. Stalin observed that while big-ticket tax evaders and illicit hoarders remained entirely untouched and comfortable, millions of honest, hardworking citizens were subjected to harrowing struggles, standing in endless bank queues simply to access their own money.

Stalin emphasized that the abrupt invalidation of five-hundred and one-thousand rupee notes had hit wage laborers, daily vendors, self-employed artisans, and small business owners hardest. Deprived of circulating cash, ordinary citizens could not purchase daily groceries, buy essential medicines, or pay for urgent medical emergencies. Stalin pointed out that corrupt syndicates managed to convert their holdings through clandestine back channels, proving that the chaotic recall exercise had utterly failed in its stated objective of eliminating black wealth.

The opposition leader demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi confront the ground realities of public suffering instead of offering empty political rhetoric. Stalin urged the central government to take immediate steps to end the currency drought, protect the purchasing power of the working poor, and restore stability to the state's shattered local economy.
