DMK leader M.K. Stalin sounded a strong alarm on November 29, 2016, over widespread irregularities, political nepotism, and bribery allegations surrounding the recruitment of professors and assistant professors across Tamil Nadu universities. Stalin warned that commercializing faculty recruitment and bypassing established academic merit would shatter the quality of higher education and destroy the repute of state universities.
Stalin pointed out that prestigious university departments were witnessing qualified doctoral researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and experienced guest lecturers being passed over in favor of candidates backed by political patrons or corrupt payoffs. When academic faculty selections become commodities sold to the highest bidder rather than awarded on research publications and teaching excellence, classroom instruction inevitably deteriorates. Stalin emphasized that such malpractices violated University Grants Commission regulations and deeply demoralized deserving scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The opposition leader demanded an independent, court-monitored investigation into all recent university faculty selections across the state. Stalin urged the Governor-Chancellor to cancel fraudulent selection panels and implement transparent, merit-based hiring protocols. He affirmed that the DMK would firmly resist any corruption that compromised Tamil Nadu's academic institutions and the intellectual prospects of its youth.
