I request the Hon.Governor-Chancellor to look into the administration of 14 universities in TN and appoint VCs in case of vacancies.
DMK leader M.K. Stalin submitted an urgent appeal to Governor-Chancellor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on November 29, 2016, requesting immediate intervention to address administrative paralysis across fourteen state universities in Tamil Nadu. In his communication, Stalin urged the Governor to examine the governance crisis caused by prolonged delays in appointing regular vice-chancellors to head leading academic institutions.
Stalin observed that premier institutions including the University of Madras, Anna University, and Madurai Kamaraj University were functioning under makeshift convener committees for several months. Leaving universities headless paralyzed academic councils, disrupted research grants, stalled doctoral evaluations, and led to administrative drift. Stalin pointed out that search committees constituted by the state government were mired in controversies, political favoritism, and allegations of monetary transactions, discrediting the integrity of higher education.
The opposition leader appealed to the Governor to exercise his statutory powers as Chancellor to ensure that only eminent academicians of proven merit and high ethical standing were appointed as vice-chancellors. Stalin emphasized that restoring institutional governance and academic credibility was paramount to safeguard the future of millions of students studying in Tamil Nadu's universities.
