DMK leader M.K. Stalin welcomed the Tamil Nadu government's decision on December 10, 2016, to finally come forward and cooperate with central authorities to implement the Maduravoyal-Chennai Port elevated corridor project. Stalin noted that this long-overdue reversal vindicated the visionary infrastructure planning of the previous DMK government, which had originally launched the mega elevated expressway to transform urban logistics.
Stalin recalled that the project had remained stalled for over five years purely due to partisan political spite by the AIADMK dispensation. After significant public funds were invested and pillars erected along the Cooum riverbed, the state government had issued stop-work notices, causing national loss and severe congestion. The Madras High Court had repeatedly admonished the administration for obstructing public interest works. Stalin pointed out that persistent advocacy by the DMK and industrial bodies had ultimately compelled the state leadership to drop its obstructionist stance.
The opposition leader demanded that the administration now expedite clearance procedures without creating further bureaucratic hurdles. Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu's industrial competitiveness depended on robust port connectivity and modern transit networks. He affirmed that the DMK would continue to champion major infrastructure initiatives that generate employment and stimulate economic progress across the state.
