DMK leader M.K. Stalin conducted an on-site inspection of cyclone-affected areas in his Kolathur constituency on December 13, 2016, assessing the trail of destruction left by Cyclone Vardah. Walking through residential streets and commercial pockets, Stalin met affected local residents, listened to their grievances regarding prolonged power outages and water shortages, and instructed municipal authorities to expedite clearing work.

Stalin observed that hundreds of avenue trees, telecom poles, and high-tension electrical transformers were flattened by gale-force winds, blocking neighborhood access roads. He urged civic engineers and electricity board personnel present at the site to deploy heavy earthmovers and power saws to clear thoroughfares on a war footing. Stalin emphasized that priority must be given to restoring power supply to local hospitals, primary health centers, and community drinking water distribution points.

The opposition leader reassured the local residents of Kolathur that he would continuously monitor restoration progress until normal living conditions returned. Stalin praised municipal sanitation workers for their tireless labor under dangerous conditions, urging authorities to provide them with adequate safety gear and tools. He reiterated that elected representatives must maintain direct contact with the public during natural emergencies.
