DMK leader M.K. Stalin issued a directive to party members on December 13, 2016, calling upon district functionaries, elected local body representatives, and youth wing cadres to join hands with government personnel in cyclone relief operations. Stalin instructed DMK workers to mobilize across storm-ravaged localities in Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Tiruvallur districts to assist affected communities struggling in the aftermath of Cyclone Vardah.

Stalin emphasized that the primary responsibility of public workers during natural catastrophes was selfless service to distressed people. He asked party cadres to assist civic workers in clearing fallen trees, clearing blocked storm drains, and distributing dry rations, drinking water, and milk to families in waterlogged settlements. Stalin particularly stressed the need to organize community kitchens and temporary medical assistance camps for elderly citizens, women, and infants stranded in damaged residential areas.

The opposition leader affirmed that the DMK tradition was rooted in public service during times of widespread distress. Stalin urged party volunteers to work selflessly without partisan bias, cooperating with civic administration teams to restore normal urban life. He stated that compassionate collective action remained the true hallmark of Dravidian public work.
