DMK leader M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government on December 16, 2016, to take progressive policy measures to enhance welfare quotas for persons with disabilities. He demanded that the state administration raise reservations for disabled citizens to five percent in higher educational institutions and four percent in state government recruitment, while launching a special drive to fill longstanding backlog vacancies.

Stalin stressed that genuine social justice demanded the institutional empowerment and economic independence of differently-abled individuals. Despite statutory mandates and repeated judicial directives, thousands of designated posts across state departments and public sector undertakings remained vacant. Stalin pointed out that educated disabled youth struggled against systemic neglect, administrative apathy, and procedural barriers, which prevented them from accessing equitable employment and dignified livelihoods.

The opposition leader called upon the Chief Minister to demonstrate compassionate governance by notifying enhanced reservation quotas without delay. Stalin insisted that the state conduct an immediate audit of all government departments to identify backlogged vacancies and execute time-bound recruitment. He affirmed that the DMK remained unswerving in defending the constitutional rights of persons with disabilities, striving to build an inclusive society with dignified opportunities for all.
