DMK leader M.K. Stalin conveyed deep gratitude to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on December 20, 2016, on behalf of the Tamil community worldwide. Stalin commended Rawat for his decisive leadership in unveiling the statue of the immortal Tamil sage-philosopher Thiruvalluvar within the premises of Haridwar's Mela Bhawan, overcoming initial bureaucratic obstacles and resistance from regional fringe groups.
Stalin noted that Thiruvalluvar's ethical treatise, the Thirukkural, transcended linguistic, geographical, and religious boundaries, presenting universal human values that belonged to the entire global civilization. The respectful installation of the sage's statue on the banks of the sacred Ganga signified a glorious moment of cultural harmony, mutual respect, and national integration between North and South India. Stalin appreciated Harish Rawat's administrative firm resolve in ensuring that the statue received the solemn dignity and honor it rightfully deserved.
The opposition leader emphasized that celebrating Tamil classical heritage across different Indian states strengthened the fraternal bonds connecting diverse linguistic nationalities. Stalin expressed hope that such constructive gestures would foster deeper appreciation for Dravidian philosophy, classical literature, and the universal message of egalitarian ethics taught by Thiruvalluvar to all humanity.
