DMK leader M.K. Stalin issued a broad public call on December 20, 2016, appealing to all political parties, cultural forums, and social organizations to join hands in defense of Jallikattu. Calling upon DMK workers and the wider public to participate in large numbers, Stalin emphasized that protecting the traditional bull-taming sport was a collective cultural duty transcending partisan affiliations.
Stalin highlighted that Jallikattu represented an ancient rural heritage embodying the valour, cattle conservation practices, and agrarian ethos of Tamil society. The continuing legal prohibition had provoked deep anguish across rural households and youth communities who sustained indigenous livestock breeds for generations. Stalin argued that fragmented reactions would weaken the state's collective voice, insisting that a formidable multi-party mobilization was vital to compel executive action from central and state authorities.
The opposition leader reaffirmed that the upcoming protest at Alanganallur was organized as an inclusive platform for all Tamils committed to preserving their cultural heritage. Stalin called upon students, farmers, traders, and political colleagues across organizational lines to stand in solid brotherhood. He stated that united civil resistance remained the most effective democratic instrument to overcome administrative apathy and reclaim the rightful conduct of traditional cultural festivities.
