DMK leader M.K. Stalin expressed profound dismay on December 21, 2016, following unprecedented Income Tax raids conducted at the official residence and secretariat office of Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao. Stalin asserted that federal investigators searching the top administrative officer's premises marked a historic low, bringing unprecedented public humiliation upon the state.
Stalin observed that Tamil Nadu's bureaucracy had historically enjoyed an enviable national reputation for administrative capability, administrative discipline, and policy excellence. Seeing federal armed personnel enter the Chief Secretary's chamber inside Fort St. George deeply shamed law-abiding citizens and conscientious public servants. Stalin pointed out that such degeneration occurred because ruling political leaders used the highest civil servants as personal agents to execute corrupt financial arrangements rather than uphold constitutional governance.
The opposition leader demanded that Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam immediately relieve the tainted Chief Secretary from official duties and present an unvarnished account of administrative irregularities to the public. Stalin affirmed that the dignity of Tamil Nadu could be reclaimed only through rigorous judicial accountability, an end to political meddling, and the restoration of ethical administrative standards.
