DMK leader M.K. Stalin called upon Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on December 23, 2016, to issue an immediate comprehensive public statement regarding Income Tax raids conducted across the state. Pointing out that federal enforcement actions directly targeted the Chief Secretary's residence and office inside Fort St. George, Stalin remarked that such developments severely tarnished the administrative dignity of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin noted that the state secretariat represented the sovereign administrative headquarters of the elected government, housing confidential records and policy archives. Armed central paramilitary personnel entering the state administrative seat without official resistance highlighted an unprecedented institutional breakdown. Stalin criticized the Chief Minister for maintaining persistent silence while public trust dissolved, questioning why the executive leadership failed to clarify circumstances surrounding the scandal to citizens.
The opposition leader stressed that constitutional governance demanded immediate executive transparency and institutional accountability. Stalin urged Panneerselvam to present the full facts to the people, clarify state oversight regarding tainted contracts, and delineate steps taken to insulate the bureaucracy from systemic corruption. He asserted that evasive silence could not protect executive credibility during an unprecedented institutional crisis confronting the state machinery.
