DMK leader M.K. Stalin registered strong condemnation on December 24, 2016, regarding the unlawful deployment of Tamil Nadu state police personnel as private security guards for private individuals residing at the Veda Nilayam residence in Poes Garden. Stalin emphasized that using state-funded police officers to provide round-the-clock protective cover and personal escort duties to unelected private persons was an illegal, disgraceful abuse of public authority.
Stalin pointed out that statutory police protection was strictly governed by formal threat assessment protocols and constitutional provisions, reserved exclusively for constitutional dignitaries and authorized public officials. Diverting scores of trained police constables and officers to protect private individuals who held no official government position severely degraded the professional standing of the police department and deprived ordinary citizens of essential law enforcement protection across the metropolis.
The opposition leader demanded that Chennai Police Commissioner and the state Home Department immediately withdraw all unauthorized police deployments from the private residence. Stalin asserted that public funds and state security personnel must never be misappropriated for private glorification. He affirmed that the DMK would pursue appropriate legal avenues to hold responsible officials accountable for this breach of administrative norms.
