DMK leader M.K. Stalin issued a firm warning to Tamil Nadu Director General of Police on December 24, 2016, stating that the main opposition party would initiate direct legal proceedings if the police hierarchy failed to halt rampant administrative abuses degrading force discipline. Stalin expressed deep indignation over reports showing that uniformed police personnel were being diverted from statutory law enforcement duties to serve private political interests.
Stalin pointed out that the Tamil Nadu police force possessed a distinguished history of professional excellence and impartial public service. However, ruling party functionaries were systematically subordinating the police department to partisan agendas, deploying state personnel for factional security and personal errands. Senior police officers who permitted such unlawful diversions were eroding public trust in law enforcement agencies while neighborhood crime prevention remained severely neglected.
The opposition leader stressed that the Director General of Police was constitutionally bound to uphold the Police Act and defend institutional autonomy against political manipulation. Stalin warned that if senior commanders continued to abdicate statutory duties, the DMK would approach judicial courts to enforce police accountability. He affirmed that the party stood committed to defending police morale and impartial justice.
