DMK leader M.K. Stalin issued a clarion call to party workers across Tamil Nadu on December 27, 2016, instructing them to actively join ongoing farmers' protests and amplify the collective voice of the agrarian community. Stalin emphasized that with severe drought threatening rural livelihoods, party cadres must stand in full solidarity with cultivators waging democratic agitations to demand urgent relief, loan waivers, and fair compensation.
Stalin pointed out that farmers in the Cauvery delta, western belts, and southern districts were conducting peaceful demonstrations, hunger strikes, and road blockades to draw attention to crop failures and mounting debts. He noted that agricultural producers who fed the state were being neglected by an indifferent administration, making it the bounden duty of the main opposition party to support their righteous struggles.
The opposition leader instructed district secretaries, legislators, and grassroots functionaries to participate actively in farmer-led rallies and ensure widespread public awareness of rural grievances. Stalin affirmed that the DMK was not merely a political party but a mass social movement committed to fighting for rural dignity and economic justice. He vowed that the party would sustain agitations until all farming demands were resolved.
