DMK leader M.K. Stalin demanded on December 27, 2016, that the Union Government provide a comprehensive public explanation regarding allegations made by former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao following extensive tax raids. Stalin noted that while Union ministers claimed the searches were executed on the basis of credible documentary evidence, Rao had publicly questioned central authority and raised serious procedural allegations.

Stalin emphasized that such contradictory claims between a senior civil servant and the central executive generated widespread administrative confusion and damaged public confidence in state institutions. If investigating agencies possessed substantial incriminating evidence regarding large-scale money laundering and corruption, the Union Government was constitutionally obligated to clarify the exact evidentiary basis of the operation to prevent political obfuscation.

The opposition leader asserted that investigative actions against systemic corruption should never be entangled in bureaucratic wrangling or partisan point-scoring. Stalin called upon the central leadership to act with absolute transparency, share factual findings with relevant state agencies, and ensure that those guilty of looting public funds faced swift judicial prosecution. He maintained that the DMK stood steadfast against corruption at all levels of government.
