DMK leader M.K. Stalin delivered a pointed critique on January 3, 2017, drawing a sharp parallel between the inert state administration and the threat facing native livestock. Addressing demonstrators demanding the revival of Jallikattu, Stalin urged authorities not to reduce prized native bulls to passive museum showpieces, warning that the AIADMK regime itself had already degenerated into a mere ornamental spectacle lacking executive vitality.
Stalin highlighted that rural communities carefully bred and revered indigenous cattle breeds like Kangayam, Pulikulam, and Umblachery specifically for the traditional sport. Banning Jallikattu directly endangered these hardy indigenous breeds, threatening genetic diversity and rural dairy sustainability. He argued that stripping these animals of their traditional role would force pastoralists to abandon breeding, leading to tragic extinction of native livestock heritage.
The opposition leader criticized the ruling AIADMK for failing to mount an effective legal defense in the Supreme Court or lobby the Union Government forcefully. Stalin insisted that the state administration break its slumber and take decisive legal steps to safeguard agrarian customs. He reaffirmed DMK's steadfast commitment to preserving rural biodiversity, cattle wealth, and traditional Tamil cultural practices.
