DMK leader M.K. Stalin addressed a direct and impassioned appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 3, 2017, urging the central leadership not to betray Tamil Nadu or test the patience of the Tamil people over Jallikattu. Speaking amidst rising public anger across rural districts, Stalin called upon the Union Government to understand the profound emotional, cultural, and historical significance attached to the traditional bull-taming sport.

Stalin emphasized that Jallikattu was an ancient living tradition central to rural agrarian life and indigenous cattle preservation, rather than a spectacle of cruelty as mischaracterized by certain urban interest groups. The ongoing ban had caused deep psychological distress across Tamil society, creating widespread apprehension that centuries-old cultural customs were being systematically dismantled by insensitive central directives and legal constraints.

The opposition leader warned that testing the endurance and cultural pride of a peaceful populace could lead to unprecedented social unrest. Stalin urged Prime Minister Modi to intervene proactively before the Pongal festival by issuing an executive ordinance or amending the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. He affirmed that the DMK would stand shoulder to shoulder with citizens to protect Tamil heritage.
