DMK leader M.K. Stalin urged Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on January 6, 2017, to direct the Higher Education Department to immediately release the pending December salaries of Annamalai University employees. Stalin pointed out that hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff in the historic institution faced acute financial hardship due to delayed salary disbursements ahead of the Pongal festival.
Stalin noted that since the state government took over the administrative management of Annamalai University following financial mismanagement by previous management, employees had suffered recurrent uncertainty regarding wages and promotions. Failure to credit regular monthly compensation severely impacted household budgets, loan repayments, and daily livelihood needs of university workers. He stressed that administrative restructuring should never penalize dedicated academic and administrative staff who serve students diligently.
The opposition leader insisted that the higher education authorities address pending staff representations, regularize service conditions, and clear outstanding statutory dues without delay. Stalin affirmed that safeguarding the morale and financial security of university personnel was vital for maintaining academic excellence in the state. He called on the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure swift disbursement before festival celebrations.
