DMK leader M.K. Stalin addressed party cadres on January 7, 2017, urging them to express affection and greeting through respectful, warm smiles rather than engaging in subservient practices. Stalin emphasized that a heartfelt vanakkam offered with dignity was the truest form of fraternal greeting, completely rendering any servile gestures or hierarchical posturing unnecessary within the Dravidian movement.
Stalin noted that the Dravidian movement was founded by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and nurtured by C.N. Annadurai and Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi precisely to liberate Tamil society from mental and social enslavement. Mutual affection, brotherhood, and self-respect formed the lifeblood of the organization. He cautioned party workers against adopting feudal sycophancy that degraded human dignity, urging them to embody egalitarian ideals in all daily interactions and political gatherings.
The opposition leader affirmed that the strength of the DMK resided in self-respecting cadres who fought for public welfare with head held high. Stalin urged every member to reject servility in all manifestations and uphold ideological integrity. He reiterated that comradeship rooted in self-respect was the greatest asset of the party in its historic mission for social equality.
