Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited The New College campus in Chennai on January 12, 2017, to personally express his solidarity with hundreds of college students demonstrating for the conduct of Jallikattu. Stalin interacted with the vibrant student protesters who had organized boycotts and sit-ins, commending their youthful energy, cultural consciousness, and non-violent determination to safeguard traditional Tamil sports.

Stalin addressed the assembled students, assuring them that their courageous initiative was inspiring the entire state of Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that the struggle for Jallikattu was not just about an annual sporting spectacle, but about defending regional cultural identity, rural pastoral economy, and indigenous bovine genetic diversity. The students' peaceful resolve highlighted the generational continuity of Tamil pride and social consciousness.

The opposition leader promised that the DMK would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the entire student fraternity throughout their democratic agitation. Stalin condemned any administrative attempts to harass or intimidate college students exercising their democratic freedoms. He called upon both state and central governments to immediately respond to the youth's united voice by promulgating an emergency ordinance before the Pongal festival begins.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
