DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a historical caution to the Tamil Nadu and central governments on January 12, 2017, warning that administrations ignoring the righteous agitations of students inevitably faced downfall. Stalin highlighted that the spontaneous student mobilization swelling across college campuses in support of Jallikattu carried immense moral and democratic force that no elected government could afford to overlook.

Stalin recalled that modern political history, especially in Tamil Nadu, proved that student movements possessed the unique power to dismantle authoritarian regimes and reshape political landscapes. From the anti-Hindi agitations to democratic struggles worldwide, students had consistently championed justice and cultural preservation. Belittling their concerns or assuming their momentum would fade reflected political shortsightedness and administrative arrogance.

The opposition leader urged Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and the Union leadership to comprehend the depth of student passion and act before public anger escalated further. Stalin stressed that immediate legislative intervention to restore Jallikattu was the only acceptable response to the youth's righteous demands. He reaffirmed the DMK's total solidarity with agitating students, pledging unwavering support in their defense of Tamil heritage.
